Marin County is participating in Urban Greening Bay Area, a collaborative effort to re-envision Bay Area urban landscapes with widespread green infrastructure to address climate change impacts, infiltrate or capture stormwater and pollutants near their sources, promoting improved water quality in San Francisco Bay. Given Bay Area population growth projections from seven to nine million people by 2040, on-going environmental impacts of chemical products (past, present, and future), and continuing competition for reliable, safe drinking water; the challenge facing the region is how to accommodate these prospects while protecting water quality. Green Infrastructure is a multi-benefit solution that addresses stormwater quality and quantity concerns, while providing myriad ancillary benefits.
